Road improvement project in Wednesbury set to start
Work is set to begin on a major road improvement scheme to
introduce new safety measures in Wednesbury from Sunday (12 May). The project, at the Wood Green Road, Myvod Road and Woden Road East junction, will introduce controlled pedestrian crossings as well as replacing outdated traffic signal equipment. In addition, the central reservations will be widened, allowing room for pedestrians to stand and wait to cross.
The existing triangular island currently located at the Wood Green Road/Myvod Road junction will be also removed. A Sandwell Council spokesperson said: “This is a major route for many motorists linking Wednesbury town and the rest of the Black Country to Junction 9 of the M6. “The scheme will allow us to improve road safety for all pedestrians and, in particular, children and young people from nearby schools.”
The work, which is being completed by Stourbridge Paving Co., will involve temporary pedestrian crossing signals, as well as lane closures along all approaches. Short-term disruptions and delays are to be expected – however, this disruption will be kept to a minimum. Work at the junction is set to start on Sunday (12 May) and is expected to finish in August 2024.
This project is part of Sandwell Council’s programme of planned road safety improvements around the borough this year.
